Alyssa Startup has experienced an array of musical venues in her young life, from singing in her small town church as a terrified 3 year old to opening up for headliners Jimmy Wayne and Bucky Covington, and the lengendary Charlie Daniels in front of thousands. Born on August 4th, 1994 in the Tri-State area of Port Jervis, New York, Alyssa grew up in a small town called Pond Eddy where the population is small enough to fit in a tour bus as her street crew. Even though being from New York, this small town country girl has a sweet, spontaneous, edgy, "don't mess with me" side that shines whether on a stage or just out on the town.
Growing up around country music has influenced her into the path Alyssa has chosen in her music career-in-the-making. Her musical influences begin with the edginess of country music artists Gretchen Wilson and Miranda Lambert and extend to the vocal range and power of Martina McBride and Faith Hill. Alyssa has teamed up, and been working with Thunder Country on promoting her original songs and gigs. They first found Alyssa performing at Sullivan County Star-Search in 2009 where her young raw talent shone through grabbing their interest.
Since then, she has performed with Somerville, a local country band who helped her get her start, playing acoustic trio sets and full band shows at the local hot spots, as well as festivals, fairs and fundraisers. Those gigs led up to opening for Bucky Covington and Jimmy Wayne for two years at ThunderBash, local country station Thunder 102's annual concert and fundraising event. She has shared the stage with the talents of The Tommy Steele Band and Nashville recording artist, David Adam Byrnes.
So how does country music enter Alyssa's life? "Being surrounded and embraced by it my entire childhood and life has made me come to realize that every song has a relatable story. I may be young, and not have lived long enough to know much, but what I do know is that country music is a language all its own. I've been speaking it since my first words, and any country artist or fan would agree with me, it's a way for us all to connect with our different journeys as one. If we have something to say we sing about it." Although she is still in the infancy of her musical career, this small town, rising country artist will be soon making her way in the country music world. Thanks to Thunder 102, a MusicRow reporting station, Alyssa is rising in her musical career. Keep an eye out country fans, because her momma didn't raise no fool and she's not stopping till she's on top of the charts.
