Craig Roper has been playing bass for 29 years. He's performed in bands on and off most of that time. He was inspired to become a musician by his older brother who played guitar and piano. He took up the bass after his close friend Mark Mastronardi got a guitar for Christmas in 1990. Shortly after Mark insisted that Craig play bass. He didn’t have a bass or have any idea how to play one. Mark suggested that Craig sign up as a backup bass player in the jazz band at North Junior High School. They loaned him a bass so he could begin practicing at home and taking lessons in school. He took only 3 or 4 lessons. Instead he practiced LED Zeppelin songs that Mark would pass on to him. His musical inspiration also came from Jaco Pastorius, Víctor Wooten, Mark King and more recently Chet Atkins, Vince Gill, and Brad Paisley. Craig is from Newburgh, NY. He now lives in Montgomery with his wonderful and supportive wife and two beautiful children. Craig is a founding member of Hillbillly Parade.
